There’s a leak and then there is your CTO confirming an upcoming device in an interview with MocoNews. The latter was exactly the case when T-mobile USA CTO Cole Brodman confirmed a late June release for the carrier’s second Android-powered handset. Not only did Mr. Brodman confirm the second Android device but he also confirmed that there will be ’several other Android phones launched this year’.

The real area of interest with this ’second Android handset’ is that it might not actually end up being the HTC Magic ‘MyTouch 3G’ that we had originally predicted. Instead it could be an Android-powered device by a manufacturer like Samsung Mobile or even Motorola. What we can confirm at this point is that the device will run on Android OS 1.5 ‘CupCake’ which has seen a delayed deployment on the existing T-mobile G1.

Besides the Android news from Mr. Broadman he also went into detail concerning the possible launch of the Nokia N97 which will be making an international debut later this month. We can now officially put any T-mobile USA N97 rumors to rest as Broadman said,

“Some of the Nokia/Symbian devices have a lot of functionality, but they are quite expensive and Symbian does not have a lot of traction in the U.S. While Nokia is a strong partner, we haven’t had a lot of demand for N-series products to date,” declared Brodman.”

On the plus side at least T-mobile USA users will be seeing several Android-powered smartphones this year and of course the highly-anticipated Wing II, aka HTC Touch Pro 2. Things are shaping up very nicely for the last of the US carriers to launch a 3G network I’d have to say.
